What’s In A Name?

Another baby name book read and still no closer to selecting a name for Child #5.  However, I like What’s In A Name? and wanted to share it with you (you can get a used copy from Amazon for 1 penny right now).

Consider this excerpt from the Introduction:

Most name books give mainly literal or cultural meaning.  Some will list beside each entry, famous people having had that name.  Some will add quotations from well-known literary works.  These books are, in a sense, impersonal name dictionaries and are not intended to be otherwise.  This book is different!

Throughout the Bible are countless instances revealing God’s interest in individuals in their names.  So deep was this interest, He sometimes changed names in order to better work out His plan in their lives.  He’s also interested in you.  We believe God has made you a special creation.  He has a unique love for you.  He wants you to live up to the potential He has placed within you.  He wants you to live up to your name.
