Dale Carnegie – select quotes

Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain – and most fools do.

Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.

Remember, happiness doesn’t depend on who you are or what you have; it depends solely on what you think.

You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years of trying to get other people interested in you.

Death of a friend

Today I received an email letting me know that a friend had died in January. It has been three months and I am just now getting word. That tells you how often we corresponded or talked on the phone. Typically, we communicated about four or five times a year. So the hole in my schedule may be barely noticeable, but the hole in my heart is profound.

I commented on this seeming incongruity and another friend observed that despite general opinion, one’s love and friendship is not contingent upon nor can it be measured by the frequency of communication.

I think he is right, but somehow it just doesn’t quite make sense.
