Isaac Watts

Isaac Watts (1674-1748) is considered by many to be the father, or revitalizer, of the English hymn. Watts began writing hymns almost by accident. He complained to his father that all they had to sing in church were poor renderings, in verse, of the Psalms. His father suggested he should create something better. The following Sunday Watts presented his hymn “Behold the Glories of the Lamb.” [From ChristianHistory.net]

Dr. Gordon Isaac taught a course on the life and writings of the great German reformer, Martin Luther at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts.

New Denomination – Church of the Legos

In the beginning was the Legos. The Reverend Stuart Dornfeld built a lego model of his Emanuel Lutheran church out of Legos. More than 12,000 of the plastic blocks and 72 hours of work went into the mini-version of the Brandon, Wisconsin, house of worship.

Baptists and the Bible – – Recommended by Paige Patterson

At a recent alumni luncheon of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, L. Russ Bush III was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award. Bush presently serves as distinguished professor of philosophy of religion, director of the Center for Faith and Culture, and academic vice president and dean of the faculty emeritus at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C.

Seminary President Paige Patterson described Bush as a man known for his intellect and gentleness and cited Bush’s book “Baptists and the Bible” as “one of the 10 most important publications” of the 20th century.
