The inherent vice of Capitalism is
the unequal sharing of blessings;
the inherent vice of Socialism is
the equal sharing of miseries.
~ Winston Churchill
I was so disappointed to learn today that yet another Nobel Peace Prize has been given and again I was not the recipient. Obviously the Prize Committee is overlooking the difficult task I have of negotiating the peace amongst my five children. Who did they give it to? Barack Obama? How could they do that, he only has two kids! I watched the news conference in which Obama indicated he would accept the prize and even he appeared to be embarrassed about having received it without any record of accomplishment.
Given that prizes are being passed out in the absence of actual achievement, I decided to check my Twitter rankings — maybe they had decided to move me to the top of their Top 100 list. Nope. I’m still down at 203,306.
What a disappointing day this has been.

The following is a transcript from the video. John Piper illustrates the struggle that many of us have in trying to rejoice over and respect a president whom we believe is guilty of promoting murder; for killing is killing no matter what you call it.

It’s a magnificent thing: The only newly-originating life in the universe that comes in the image of God is Man. The only newly-originating life in the universe that lasts forever is Man.
This is an awesome thing.
And, as everyone knows, that reverence is not shared by our new President, over whom we have rejoiced.
He is trapped and blind in a culture of deceit. On the 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, he released this statement,
We are reminded that this decision not only protects women’s health and reproductive freedom, but stands for a broader principle: that government should not intrude on our most private family matters.
To which I say:
Mr. President, some of us wept for joy at your inauguration. And we pledge that we will pray for you.
We have hope in our sovereign God.

The election is a thing of the past, but as I make the transition from annotatedbookmarks.info to annotatedbookmarks.com I want to make sure that I do not lose my list of those bloggers who did what they could to support Mike Huckabee’s bid for the White House. I post them here to make sure I don’t lose them during the transition…
Governors of Roman provinces were given freedom to rule them in their own manner so long as they did not mess things up too bad. However, then, like now, there were those governors who pushed the self-destruct button. One such governor of Sicily, Verres, is noted to have spoken openly of the three fortunes he needed to make; one to pay the debts he incurred in getting elected to the office, one to bribe the jurors in chase he was indicted, and another to live on for the rest of his life.
Hmmm…. Sound familiar?
McCain and Obama have been telling us what they will do if they become President. Well, what would you do if you became President? Tessa shared her vision for America in the picture above. Need help with the translation?
“If I were President I would make everything free and wear pretty dresses.”
I think I am going to vote for Tessa.
It would seem that fatherhood and personhood are inextricably intertwined. I would love to see this short 30 second clip used in a YouTube debate.
A new USA Today/Gallup poll taken after Barack Obama’s overseas trip shows John McCain gaining ten points over last month’s poll. Virginia’s Republican head calls for a statewide investigation into voter registration fraud. Senate majority leader gives a little on energy legislation. Police cars fueled by used McDonald’s cooking oil.
With the conventions around the corner, rumors abound over who will get the nod as running mate for presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain.
This evening Robert Novak spoke during our dinner at the Defending the American Dream Summit. Yes, I know what some of you are thinking who routinely read my blog. It has not been long since I said of Novak that as he has aged (he is 76) he has gradually stopped doing research and reporting and instead has become a gossip columnist. (And, yes I made a similar claim about the Wall Street Journal’s John Fund who will be speaking to us tomorrow.) But, let me tell you, Novak’s speech this evening and the Q&A session afterwards were both insightful and interesting.
