Historical perspective, political and current event analysis, personal memoir, and Biblical exegesis; — what’s not to like? I finished listening to the seven-disc audio book and immediately started over with disc one again. There was just too much good information to take it all in the first time around.
Joel Rosenberg, though still a young man (anyone younger than me is a “young man”) has an extensive background that has uniquely prepared to him construct such a book. “Joel is an evangelical Christian from an Orthodox Jewish heritage…. As a communications strategist, Joel has worked with some of the world’s most influential leaders in business, politics, and media, including Steve Forbes, Rush Limbaugh, former Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Natan Sharansky, and former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.” And, he is a great writer. In fact, he has written several fiction books which became bestsellers including his most recent book, Dead Heat, which has been on the NY Times Bestsellers list for the last four weeks. The audio book of Epicenter is read by Rosenberg himself and it is good to hear it come from his own voice.
On occasion I have said that no one understands the Middle East except God, Himself. However, Rosenberg is able to place current events within their historical context and color them with narratives about the agents of change such that one’s understanding is magnified. Why is Russia supplying Iran with nuclear technology even though Iranian leaders have swore to wipe the Big Satan (United States of America) and the Little Satan (Israel) off the map? Rosenberg explains it using “interviews with Israeli, Palestinian, and Russian leaders, and previously classified CIA and White House documents.” What should we expect next? Rosenberg plays the prophet, and his past predictions have been uncannily accurate.
I strongly recommend Epicenter. I don’t agree with all of Rosenberg’s analysis or exegesis, but it is interesting and it will make you think.
